Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj was born into a pious Brahmin family in the small village of Mangarh. From a very young age, he displayed deep spiritual inclination and exceptional intelligence. He completed his early education in Sanskrit and philosophy, studying scriptures such as the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, and Shrimad Bhagavatam.
Kripalu Ji Maharaj dedicated his life to the path of Bhakti Yoga, emphasizing divine love and devotion to Shri Radha Krishna. His spiritual discourses and kirtans inspired millions to walk the path of selfless love for God.
In 1957, at the age of only 34, he was honored with the rare and prestigious title of Jagadguru by the Kashi Vidvat Parishat (an esteemed body of 500 top scholars of India) — making him the fifth original Jagadguru in Indian history, after Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya, Jagadguru Ramanujacharya, Jagadguru Nimbarkacharya, and Jagadguru Madhvacharya.
The scholars were astounded by his deep knowledge of scriptures and his logical, loving explanation of the supreme path of devotion. They gave him titles like:
