Emraan Hashmi Revisits Awarapan, Reveals Why the Cult Film Failed to Connect With Audiences Two Decades Ago Despite Its Lasting Impact
Mumbai: Emraan Hashmi is looking back at one of the most significant films of his career as Awarapan 2 brings the franchise back to the big screen nearly two decades after the original film’s release.
The 2007 film, directed by Mohit Suri and starring Hashmi as Shivam Pandit, did not make a major impact at the box office when it first arrived in theatres. However, over the years, Awarapan developed a strong cult following, with its intense emotional storyline, music and Hashmi’s brooding performance earning it a dedicated fan base.
Reflecting on the film’s journey, Hashmi acknowledged that Awarapan did not find its intended audience at the time of its theatrical release. The actor now sees the renewed interest in the film and the success of its sequel as an unusual second opportunity for a story that had remained close to audiences despite its initial commercial performance.
