Box Office Milestone: ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ Becomes 2025’s 8th Top Hindi Grosser

In a year packed with high-profile releases and box office surprises, ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ has emerged as one of the most unexpected success stories of 2025. The mythological action-drama has officially secured its place as the 8th highest-grossing Hindi film of the year, crossing a significant milestone in domestic and overseas collections.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajneesh Malhotra and starring Ravi Varma in the titular role, Mahavatar Narasimha blends spiritual themes with cinematic spectacle. With powerful visuals, intense performances, and a deeply rooted mythological narrative, the film managed to strike a chord with a wide range of audiences — from spiritual seekers to mainstream moviegoers.

The film’s box office journey began on a solid note, thanks to positive word of mouth and a well-executed promotional campaign. Released on over 3,000 screens across India, the film earned ₹18.6 crore on its opening day. By the end of its first weekend, Mahavatar Narasimha had already crossed the ₹70 crore mark, outperforming several big-budget releases that had more hype but less staying power.

One of the film’s key strengths has been its pan-India appeal. While primarily a Hindi-language film, dubbed versions in Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada also contributed significantly to its overall earnings. Audiences across states appreciated the authentic storytelling, stylized action sequences, and a reverent yet contemporary portrayal of Lord Narasimha, one of the most powerful avatars of Vishnu in Hindu mythology.

Industry analysts have praised the film not just for its earnings, but for how it navigated a crowded release calendar. “Mahavatar Narasimha stood its ground amid franchise films, sequels, and commercial potboilers. Its success shows there’s a strong appetite for well-made mythological cinema,” said trade expert Anupama Trivedi.

The film’s VFX work and grand set design were also widely applauded. From the ferocious transformation scenes to the depiction of divine wrath, the visuals added an epic scale that helped elevate the story. Composer Aadesh Rao’s music, especially the devotional track “Narasimha Aagman,” became a viral hit and further added to the film’s popularity.

Despite modest expectations at the outset, the film continued to perform steadily week after week. Its sustained performance across multiplexes and single screens alike indicates a shift in audience preference — showing that viewers are open to spiritual narratives if delivered with cinematic flair and authenticity.

As of now, Mahavatar Narasimha has raked in over ₹215 crore at the Indian box office and continues to run in select theatres, especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. With this feat, it has officially cemented its position as the 8th biggest Hindi hit of 2025, ahead of several star-driven projects that failed to resonate with audiences.

Whether it marks a new era for mythological cinema or remains a one-off success, one thing is clear — Mahavatar Narasimha has left a powerful mark on 2025’s box office landscape.
