Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, accompanied by his wife Rosangela da Silva, arrived in New Delhi on Friday to attend the G20 meeting scheduled to be held in India on September 9. Their arrival at the airport was welcomed by India’s Federal Minister of State (MoS), Nityan Rai, on behalf of the Ministry.
Bharat and Brazil share a close and multifaceted relationship based on common democratic values and shared perspectives on various international issues, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) of both countries. In addition to bilateral cooperation, India and Brazil collaborate in various forums like BRICS, IBSA, and the G20, as well as in international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organization. The elevation of India-Brazil relations to the level of cooperation in 2006 marked a new phase in their bilateral ties.

Bharat-Brazil relations have continued to strengthen over the past decade, with several VVIP visits taking place in 2019 and early 2020. Prime Minister Modi met with President Jair Bolsonaro on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Osaka on June 29, 2019. During this meeting, important issues between the two sides were discussed, providing an opportunity for both countries to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation.
